Maintaining the QUALITY of gearbox oil is vital to MAXIMIZE the SERVICE LIFE of a gearbox and provide reliable TROUBLE-FREE operation. An important characteristic and property of gearbox oil is the DISSOLVED and FREE-WATER content.
MINIMIZING the WATER CONTENT of gearbox oil IMPROVES the viscosity, lowers CORROSION, and reduces pitting and water crystallization at low temperatures.
Wind-Dry Solutions provides several effective SOLUTIONS to protect gearbox oil from WATER CONTAMINATION.

⇒ Definition
A desiccant breather that incorporates a sealed diaphragm (expandable lung) which allows the gearbox to breathe its free air out and in, thus extending the life of the desiccant. The system includes a particulate filter, pressure relief valve, and vacuum relief valve
GenDry™
A robust membrane dryer to prevent gearboxes from the harmful effects of moisture and particulate contamination. The system provides a continuous supply of dry purge air to blanket the gearbox headspace to levels below 400 ppmv moisture, exceeding AGMA 6006-A03 gearbox design standards.
- No desiccant replacement
- Robust for harsh environments
- Continuous dry air
How It Works
The GenDry™ system design utilizes two pneumatic cylinders in parallel acting as air pumps and driven by a heavy duty linear actuator. The actuator drives the air pumps and generates a volume of compressed air which is stored in an accumulator. This accumulator will store all of the pressurized atmospheric air produced by the pump cylinder stroke cycle, thus minimizing the amount of cycles (3-4 strokes/hour) extending the life of the system and requiring maintenance only every 3-5 years. This stored air is then continuously released from the actuator at a given flow and pressure into a coalescer to take out liquid water. Finally, the air flows down a membrane filter which conditions the air to levels below 400 ppmv water.

- No desiccant replacement necessary
- Continuous dry purge air (under 400 ppmv)
- Robust design
- All weather protection
- Extend service life
- Reduce O&M costs
- Standalone system
A robust membrane dryer system that provides continuous dry air and blankets the free air volume in a wind turbine gearbox with <400 ppm (<-30° c dp) air, exceeding the ANSI/AGMA/AWEA 6006- A03 gearbox design standards.
Regen8
A self-reactivating dry air breather to prevent contamination of gearbox lubricating oil by water and condensation. Maintaining this low residual moisture level throughout the gearbox life is a major challenge and requires an active moisture control and management system. The REGEN8 removes the water vapor entering the gearbox to a safe level.
- Low maintenance
- Service every 3-5 years

How It Works
The REGEN8 system design is similar to a desiccant breather in that it directs air through a bed of desiccant to dry water vapor laden air. A typical desiccant breather will become less efficient as is becomes saturated; however, this is where the REGEN8 differs. As the desiccant becomes saturated, one of the system's two cylinders is activated via a solenoid-controlled valve, which then uses a heated air blower to dry the desiccant. As one cylinder is drying water vapor laden air, the other is simultaneously regenerating the desiccant medium which in turn extends the maintenance interval from 6 months to 12 months or more.

- Easy installation
- Compact design
- Intelligent control
- Minimal energy consumption
- Maintenance free
- All weather protection
- Telemetry option
- Up to 10000 litre oil capacity
- Floor mounting option
- Maximum adsorbent efficiency
- Non condensation operation
REGEN8 is an affective system to protect gearbox oil from water contamination and provides a dry air blanket preventing water ingress.
The dry air blanket is constantly maintained within gearbox reducing water content in the gear box oil.
SaharaDry (Patent Pending)
A robust desiccant breather which uses a combination of silica gel and molecular sieve desiccants, with a system of controlled valves to regulate the intake and exhaust of air. The system incorporates a two stage oil mist coalescer to prevent any contamination to the desiccant media. The system consists of a re-usable top cap and mounting base, a disposable desiccant canister, and the option for our remote bladder bag.
- Inexpensive
- Robust
- Reliable
- User Friendly
SaharaDry (Patent Pending) Lung
An elastomeric bag which connects via tubular conduit to the top cap of SaharaDry (Patent Pending) . The bladder is remotely mounted via supplied mounting hooks in the eyelets.
- Re-usable
- Extended Lifespan
- Maximizes Desiccant Capacity
How It Works
During a diurnal exchange (cycle of daily temperature change) the gearbox will inhale moist outside air through the top cap, the air then diffuses through the center canister filled with desiccant, which dries the moist air. This dry air then passes through the mounting base and particulate filter into the gearbox.
During an exhale, the air within the headspace of the gearbox will flow up through the mounting base, and directed by valves the air will flow through the center oil mist coalescer. During the 1st stage the air flows through an open cell metallic foam which removes oil mist and aerosols. During the 2nd stage the air flows through granular activated carbon which removes smaller particle oil vapors. The air then exits via an umbrella valve and vents to atmosphere.
Alternatively, if our bladder bag is utilized the dry air will not vent to atmosphere, but instead be stored within the bladder bag and continuously re-breathe this semi dry air.

NEWAGE Breather
A self-regenerating breather which protects moisture sensitive generators from damage in harsh environments. Internal heaters are controlled via an external control system and use natural air expansion (diurnal air exchange) to carry away moisture. Suitable for onshore and offshore applications.
How It Works
The breather adsorbs any moisture which is carried into the
generator caused by ambient temperature & barometric pressure changes. The breather has built-in heaters which are to be fired up for 2 hours per day at between 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. It is generally during this time window that the ambient temperature will be rising. This temperature increase will cause an air displacement to occur from inside to out. This air flow from inside to out will carry any adsorbed water out of the heated desiccant bed. These operating parameters should ensure that in the event of a turbine outage the breather will provide a minimum downtime protection for the generator of 40 days under the worst environmental conditions.
- Low intermittent power consumption
- Continuous desiccant life
- Minimal maintenance
- Programmable logic controller
- Saturation indicator
- No moving parts
